Teamscope raises €500k to further develop its intelligent talent analysis platform

Teamscope raised €500k seed round to develop a talent analytics application that helps organizations build high-performing teams. Their unique algorithm analyzes current team members and uses the data to predict which candidate best complements the team. The investment was led by Black Pearls VC and included several angel investors from the UK and Estonia (including co-founder of Skype, Jaan Tallinn).

Harnessing big data to build better teams

Teamscope combines big data analytics with scientific testing to analyze teams and help team leaders make better hiring decisions. Their unique algorithm combines data about values, personality characteristics, and core competencies of team members to first profile the existing team. Based on that, the platform recommends what characteristics to look for in a candidate and evaluates how well each candidate fits in with the role and the team. The platform then generates a detailed behavioral profile and interview guide for each candidate to help the hiring manager choose the best person for the team. The data model combines established scientific testing methods with big data analytics.

The funding round will be used to further refine the data model and to develop the platform further to better meet the needs of enterprise customers.

Founded by leading executive search professionals and data scientists

Teamcope was founded in 2016 by Alo Arro and Tõnis Arro. Alo Arro, the company CEO, has studied industrial engineering at Tallinn University of Technology and operations research at the Eindhoven Technical University. Previously, Alo has managed the operations of a FMCG startup over a 10x growth period and has built one of the leading business intelligence teams in the region.
Tõnis Arro has studied psychology at Tartu University, cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy at Helsinki University, has graduated senior executive program at London Business School and master practitioner course in team coaching at Academy of Executive Coaching . Tõnis is a serial entrepreneur , who has established Fontes, the leading executive search firm in the Baltics, and Pärnu Conferences, the largest executive conference company in Baltics. Tõnis has previously managed Estonian Development Fund, the parliamentary think-tank and VC Fund.
As Tõnis and Alo are relatives (Tõnis is Alo’s uncle), they are in a unique position to say that the founders have known each other for over 30 years before they decided to establish the business, the decision for which was actually made over Christmas dinner.

As for the Black Pearls VC, the investment round was carried out by Marcin P. Kowalik (Managing Partner) and Aleksander Dobrzyniecki (Investment Manager). The investment was made from the LQT Fund II, created as part of the National Center for Research and Development BRIdge Alfa program.

Measurable value is added more by teams and less by individuals nowadays. The collective intelligence of teams is key to their performance and personality match of individual team members has great impact to team performance. The team-based approach in human resources management is right now a must-have, and Teamscope is the pioneer with their platform.

The remainder of the round was financed by experienced angel investors, including managing partners of Heads! Executive Consultancy and Jaan Tallinn, co-founder of Skype and Kazaa and one of the first investors in DeepMind. Previous investors include SAP.io (through the Techstars program), Siena Capital, Startup Wise Guys, and several experienced tech entrepreneurs and angel investors from Estonia.
